Rohit Sharma, team India’s vice-captain in limited overs format, is in line to lead India in the historic Test match against Afghanistan.

Since many of the Indian players are confirmed to land in England in the month of June, there are possibilities that Ajinkya Rahane might also reach there before the Afghanistan Test match.

Should Rahane – India’s Test vice-captain – land in England soon, Rohit would lead the team.

He has already led India in limited-overs format in a couple of matches and his success can see him making his debut as Test captain as well.

Though, if given the job, it will come as a big surprise.

He is not a regular in playing XI in the longest format of the game.

Also, R Ashwin, who now plays only longest format of the game, will play the Test match and he has been vice-captain of India in the longest format as well.

He should be the one next in line after Virat Kohli and Rahane but his axing from ODI and T20I team has seen him going back in the queue.

It is still not clear whether Rahane will play the historic Test match or not.

Though, it has been confirmed that Kohli will not play the game.

He will fly to England to play county cricket after the end of IPL and will give historic Test a miss.

Other players will also follow him but it is not clear who will be the players who will land in England early.

India A are scheduled to play two unofficial Test matches against England A and many of the players will also play in those games.

Likes of Umesh Yadav, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja might play in those unofficial Tests as they are not a part of limited-overs team.

The India tour of England kicks in the month of July.

However, Indian team is paying extra attention on the five-match Test series that will follow.

In 2011, the MS Dhoni-led was whitewashed as the home side won all the four matches.

In 2014, India had a great start by drawing the first game and winning the second Test but England made a comeback and went onto post a win in next three games.

It will be an ardent job for India to row the boat upstream and major responsibility will fall on captain Virat Kohli.
