After the entire Sandpaper Gate which unfoiled at Cape Town, Australian captain Steve Smith conceded to the fact that it was under his helm that the entire set of events occurred.
Smith claimed it was a decision taken by the leadership group and Bancroft was a mere scapegoat.

IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, who are on a comeback trail in the upcoming edition, decide to sack their retained player, Steve Smith, from the role of captaincy.
Smith led the Rising Pune Supergiants to the finals of the 2017 edition of IPL and felt heartbreakingly close to clinching the trophy by just one run.

Australian captain Steve Smith and Bancroft during the press conference at Cape Town seem apologetic to their actions and bringing the game into disrepute. The issue has created massive roar around social media and the cricketing fraternity.
“I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I want to be here (in the press conference) because I want to be accountable for my actions,” conceded Bancroft.
“The leadership group knew about it. We spoke about it at lunch. I’m not proud of what happened. It’s not in the spirit of the game,” said Smith.

Even Australian PM was ashamed about the set of events which unfolded at Newlands.
“We all woke up this morning shocked and bitterly disappointed by the news from South Africa. It seemed completely beyond belief that the Australian cricket team had been involved in cheating,” said the Australian PM.

“After all, our cricketers are role models and cricket is synonymous with fair play. How can our team by engaged in cheating like this? It beggars belief. There’s a lot of disappointment,” added Malcolm Turnbull according to news.co.au.
