The goalkeeper with most Premier League clean sheets to his name, David James has bizarrely claimed Sergio Romero is a better goalkeeper for Manchester United than current number one David de Gea.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper made the bold assessment while speaking on TV alongside Alan Curbishley this week.
According to James, de Gea who is only now back in the Manchester United starting XI after a summer spent flirting with Real Madrid came to nothing – is an athletic goalie capable of pulling off wonderful saves.
But he’s not as commanding as James would like and he insists Romero – who started United’s first six games of the season and conceded just two goals – is a better option for Louis van Gaal.
You can hear James’ full assessment of both goalies here:
Since de Gea came back to the United team after signing a new contract, they’ve lost just once and put together a three-game winning run in the league which has seen them take the top spot.
And fans appear to be delighted that the Spaniard – their player of the year for the last two seasons – has committed to the club with a four-year contract.
Red Devils? What do you think about James’ comments?
