The cash-rich Indian Premier League is nearing its eleventh edition, and the fever has already started to grip the fans. Over the years, IPL has grown in stature to become the biggest T20 franchise league in the world. This tournament has presented many stars, who went onto play for their country.

This league has given immense reasons to its fans to cheer. However, many controversies rocked this league. The famous slapgate between Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth earned a lot of criticism from fans. The match-fixing allegations against Chennai Super Kings and  Rajasthan Royals, due to which they had to serve a two-year ban.

On that note, let us take a look at three controversies that hit the IPL 2017:

Harish Goenka’s target on Dhoni:

MS Dhoni represented Pune Supergiant in the previous two editions of IPL as Chennai faced suspension. Although Dhoni, who lead Pune in 2016 was removed from captaincy in the next year due to some controversy.

Australian skipper Steve Smith replaced Dhoni and took the team to final, however, lost.

Meanwhile, during this time, Harsh Goenka, brother of Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Pune posted a series of comments on Twitter criticising the former India skipper. However, this didn’t affect Dhoni’s performance as he continued his good show.

Also, Dhoni didn’t openly comment on Harsh Goenka’s criticisms.

Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya’s Twitter war:

IPL 2017 saw a Twitter war between two brothers and two crucial performers of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya. The Pandya brothers got into a Twitter war, to which Virender Sehwag joined in.

The war started when the India all-rounder Hardik took to Twitter to show his disappointment on his elder brother.

 “Sometimes in life, people closest to you end up disappointing you the most. Not cool, bro!” Hardik tweeted.

Meanwhile, the reason for the tweet is still unclear, but later Hardik’s elder brother Krunal Pandya tweeted regarding the same issue.

this shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I am bade bhaiyya for a reason. Let’s not make this a big issue,” Krunal replied.

However, Sehwag jumped in the middle and urged both of them not to fight.

Kieron Pollard’s fight with Sanjay Manjrekar:

The fight between Manjrekar and Pollard started when the former commented something objectionable about Pollard during a match.The former cricketer turned commentator said Pollard had no brains to bat in the top-order during Mumbai’s game against Kolkata.

However, this didn’t go well with Pollard, who retaliated back on Twitter after the game. The West Indian all-rounder tagged Manjrekar on Twitter and blasted for his negativity and verbal diarrhea.

@sanjaymanjrekar u feel any positive can come out of your mouth bcuz u get pay to talk u can continue with your verbal diarrhea (sic),” Pollard tweeted.

Pollard also got much support, who criticised Manjrekar for the brainless comment.

Meanwhile, this edition of Indian Premier League will start from April 7 with Chennai facing Mumbai in the series opener.
