PM Modi lends his broom to BCCI boss Shashank Manohar to clean Indian cricket
The perilous Indian cricket governing body BCCI finally found a man to clean up the mess it produced in the last couple of years. Shashank Manohar, who has unanimously been elected the president of the board on October 4, took over a big broom to clean up the nasty things left by tainted ICC chairman and former BCCI president N. Srinivasan.
Minutes after taking charge Manohar asked for two months time to clean all the dust of BCCI. Manohar ‘s clean BCCI movement in the 30 members Indian board once again proved how much mesmerized it is with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clean India movement introduced this year.
In recent times BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur talked on the line of Indian government when the Pakistan Cricket Board was begging for the India –Pakistan series scheduled in the UAE in December. But, the Thakur, being the BJP MP chose to follow the dictate of India government’s policy on Pakistan affair. As a result, the chance of the series has become slimmer.
So, once more Shank Manohar, who just after 25 minutes of his election, said BCCI can’t not come under the ambit of RTI because it was not controlled by any government.
After the 2014 general elections, Narendra Modi made India media go berserk as he announced his pet project “Swachh Bharat” (Clean India) movement with a huge bang. Before he left for the world tour, he used to clean the New Delhi road with a broom. We have seen it many times. Prime Minister wanted to inspire the nation to take responsibility to keep their area clean.
We had seen many government offices and institute have been following the noble work introduced by Modi.
Similarly, BCCI being the most influential cricket body in the country once again is going to endorse the PM’s project. BCCI already named the India-South Africa after legendary freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
PM, Modi, while announcing the clean India project asked the nation to fulfill the “Father of the Nation’s”- Gandhiji’s dream to have a clean India.
Meanwhile, Manohar, in order to restore the faith of Indian cricket lovers promised a controversy less BCCI within two months, borrowed the broom from PM Modi to clean the mess of Indian cricket, if not the brickbats at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, where fans got angry over Indian’s team below per performance against South Africa. The thing is that Manohar can not cross the line laid out by the BJP lead union government for BCCI, which is unofficially monitored by finance minister Arun Jaitley.
Sharad Pawar, the one of the uncleanest Indian politicians, said he wanted to restore the image of the board, so he supported his close friend Shashank Manohar. Will people have to believe his words? How much sugar he theft while running the Agricultural ministry in UPA led central government can he remember?
BCCI is always controlled by a group of people, and when that group suffered some credibility crisis, it was replaced another greedy group. Manohar has a clean record in his first tenure with BCCI. So, Sharad Pawar and co. chose their close confidant to control the board.
Actually, Manohar will follow the same tradition of other board president-keep India’s iron fist in ICC matter to rule the game’s administrative part and play the gamble back in the country. Manohar being the wise man first asked his son Adwait to step down from legal and marketing committee of BCCI in order to avoid conflict of interest- an issue that has been plaguing Indian cricket following the 2013 IPL scandal. On the second day of his office, the apex court lambasted BCCI for their slack attitude to solve the problem with N. Srinivasan. The BCCI counsel was reportedly asking whether N. Srinivasan could attend the BCCI attend the meeting or not. An irritated bench headed by T S Thakur urged BCCI not to come to them al the time.
But, when asked would he welcome more former cricketers turned cricket administrators, he sounded negative. “I will encourage a good administrator irrespective of that fact whether he is a player or not,” Manohar said.
PM, Modi, who is a clever politician can polarize the opinion with little effect. Seasoned politician Sharad has the same objective. Pawar, who was a contender for the presidential post, but ditched his plan and elect Manohar president. Pawar thought this move would make his image good. Greedy people do the sham thing. So, we have to close eye on Shashank Manohar’s day to day activities to understand his administrative motive. Would he really like to clean the mess or only want to win Indian cricket fans’ support without doing any real clean job?
BCCI being the custodian of the country’s most popular game can’t toy with fans’ mind. So, if Manohar wants to keep everything clean he have to face a reality check bringing BCCI under the ambit of RTI. Otherwise, the mess of BCCI will never be removed. It’s misdeed will continue under the carpet. Now, it is the choice of Manohar-would he like a set a propaganda or really wanted to be an iconic reformer of India cricket. Fans don’t want the broom unused!
