With the lack of Test matches for this season, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson maintained much has to be done in this regard.
“As a Test team we are growing and improving but certainly there’s still work to be done,” NZ media quotes Williamson.
In his admission, the prolific batsman Williamson revealed the side has been somewhat unimpressed following a couple of Test fixtures during the recently concluded summer season on Kiwis shores.
“We’ve played four (Tests) this year, I think there is a little bit of frustration,” he maintained .
The Blacks Caps team looked visibly frustrated owing to the dearth of fixtures of the traditional format.
However, in the recently concluded series against England at home, Kiwis sealed the two-match Test series 1-0 following the nail-biting draw at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Confident of hosting more Test matches in the foreseeable future, William added on that a lot is on the horizon when it comes to the New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
“But it’s a year where there hasn’t been a lot. I think there’s eight next year, and maybe 10 after that, so there is a lot coming up,” Williamson said.
According to the latest ICC’s Test team rankings, the Kiwis have leapfrogged Australia. The side is concurrently maintaining the third spot with both teams sharing 102 rating points each.
Also, the Kiwis are scheduled to get the cash price of US$200,000 while being listed among the top-three teams.
The 27-year-old Tauranga-born top-order batsman Williamson is leading his side extremely well. With the kickstart off the summer season, hosts thrashed Windies by 2-0.
“The way the test team performed in the whites was superb, in a number of different situations,” Williamson says.
Following the interesting drawn second Test in Christchurch, New Zealand got better of Australia when it came to the 0.063 fraction of a decimal point.
However, Kiwis has hosted the limited-overs cricket during the season. But Williamson believes it won’t be a regular practice.
Williamson reiterated the team has enjoyed featuring in the longest format while the players were disappointed.
“The team love playing Test cricket. Four, guys weren’t ecstatic with,” Williamson added.
In addition, considered as the success, the Black Caps also whitewashed Pakistan in the 50-over format, earlier this year. But went on to lose the T20 series against Men in Green.
Concluding, Williamson will lead Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
