Former India opener Virender Sehwag has admitted that he would want a bowler to become national team captain after Virat Kohli.
Meanwhile, Sehwag is currently with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) side as a mentor. Punjab will start their campaign against Delhi Daredevils tomorrow at Mohali.
Moreover, Punjab is the only team to appoint a bowler as the skipper of the team for the upcoming edition. India’s Test spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will lead Punjab when they start their campaign tomorrow.
Sehwag also heaped praise on his captain saying that he is a streetsmart cricketer. He also hoped that Ashwin can lead Punjab to something big this summer.

“Having played with Ashwin, I know that he is a very smart cricketer and has a very positive mindset. He is the right choice to lead Kings XI Punjab,” Sehwag asserted.
Having said that, Sehwag backed a bowling captain for India in the coming days. He also added that he is a fan of bowling captain.
“I am a great fan of a bowling captain. I watched Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram as captains,” he added.
Sehwag also reiterated that a bowler is ideal to share his experience with the bowlers rather than batsmen.

“During the time I played for India, the captaincy was not really given to any of the bowlers. After Virat, I think some bowler will take on Indian captaincy. He is ideal to share his experience with other bowlers rather than a batsman doing it,” Sehwag added further.
Meanwhile, KXIP has built a strong team with a good blend of Indian domestic players and overseas stars. Earlier, Sehwag admitted that this is the best KXIP team in the last 10 years.
Punjab will start their campaign against Delhi Daredevils on April 8 at Mohali.
