Last week there was a major statement from the Premiere League Champions Stamford Bridge hierarchy giving Jose Mourinho a vote of confidence, but that cannot hold back the ongoing rumours about a potential managerial replacement in near future. Reports are coming that Russian owner Roman Abramovich is already sizing up a replacement, with Atletico Madrid Manager Diego Simeone said to the number one target.
Chelsea’s start to this season is a disastrous one, currently they are hobbling 16th in the league table losing 4 of their first 8 games. The Champions League defeat to his former club Porto made things a bit more difficult.
Mourinho always keeps saying he is the best managerial option that Chelsea has right now and has promised to turn things around. But to be in Abramovich’s good book he will have to work first, otherwise the Russian owner could be left with no other option than sacking the Portuguese boss.
Also, Abramovich have to consider the big payoff that’s tagged with Mourinho, which if reports are true, could be around 30 to 40 million pounds. There is another fact Simeone has just signed a long-term deal with Atletico worth 22 million pounds, there is also a buyout clause of 15 million pounds.
