Hardik Pandya would have feared for the worst when he was escorted out of the ground after being injured while he was batting in the season-opener against Chennai Super Kings. However, the star allrounder put his team first and came out to bowl. And what a performance it was.

Chasing 166, the Super Kings were comfortably placed at 27 for no loss before Hardik put Mumbai Indians on top. He first accounted for Shane Watson to give his team the major breakthrough. A little later, he dismissed the dangerous Suresh Raina to put Super Kings’ chase off the track. He later dismissed Mark Wood and finished with impressive figures of 3 for 24 off his 4 overs.

Happy with his performance, Pandya then left the field to sit in the dugout. He must have thought that his performance was enough to seal his team a win in the opener. Chennai Super Kings were reduced to 119 for 8 after 17 overs and Mumbai were looking the likely winner.

However, what followed thereafter completely shell-shocked a jam-packed Wankhede. And Hardik Pandya’s reaction sums up the day for every Mumbai Indians fan.

Dwayne Bravo launched a stunning assault to break Mumbai’s hearts. In the 18th over, he hit 19 runs off Mitchell McClenaghan. He started the 19th over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah in the same manner. The first ball was hit for a six and when the second ball also got the same treatment, Hardik could not contain his emotion. The cameras captured him expressing his frustration in the dugout as he banged his hand in anger.

Meanwhile, Super Kings won the game by 1 wicket with Dwayne Bravo’s 30-ball 68 doing the work for them.
