Kane Williamson, on Monday (April 9), admitted that no one could replace David Warner in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad. Williamson’s comments came after he led the team to an impressive nine-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals.

Warner was the batting mainstay of the side in the last four season. His runs in the last four editions are – 641, 848, 562, 528.

In two of those editions, the left-hander Warner clinched the Orange Cap while in 2016, he finished second only to Virat Kohli.

Not only that, his captaincy was equally impressive as he led the side to the title in 2016. However, in 2017, the team made it to the playoffs.

However, Warner missed this year’s action because of the ban imposed on him after the ball-tampering scandal.

In his absence, Williamson is leading the side. And although he started his captaincy stint on a brilliant note, he said the team would miss the Australia star.

“I don’t think anyone can replace Davey (David Warner),”  said Williamson after the game.

Sunrisers roped in England opener Alex Hales to replace Warner. However, they opened the innings with the incumbent Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha in the season-opener.

And Kane Williamson hinted that Saha is likely to open in the coming days.

“He’s world class, has performed in the last couple of years have probably been some of the best of the competition,” Williamson maintained.

“Certainly, it’s been a big loss for us with that partnership at the top of the order but someone like Wriddhiman Saha to come in into that opening role… We know he is a fantastic player. So, we’ll look forward to those two to put together some partnerships,” he remarked.

“But yeah, Davey is obviously not here this year. It is a loss for us as a unit, but it’s also important at the same time we stay tight and we look to work together as a team and with the personnel we have and today we did play well as a team. And that’s important once again. We’ll look to build on that and move forward together,” he concludes.
