Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar feels MS Dhoni’s decision to play with three spinners is a good move. In the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season eleven, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) played with Imran Tahir, Ravindra Jadeja, and Harbhajan Singh.

The move did not pay rich dividends but the Super Kings still managed to win a thrilling game. Jadeja bowled just one over for nine runs while Harbhajan conceded 14 off two overs.

On the other hand, Tahir conceded 23 runs off just two overs. However, Gavaskar feels that playing with three spinners is a good move.

He reasoned it by saying that the lack of pace would make it difficult for the batsmen to hit the boundaries.

“Dhoni’s tactics of going in with three spinners is a good one, as batsmen today are looking for the extra pace to heave the ball over the ropes and the slower the ball comes off the pitch that much more difficult for the batsmen to get the elevation as well as the distance,” he wrote in his column for TOI.

Chennai marked their arrival in the league with a thrilling one-run win over defending champions Mumbai Indians on April 7 at Wankhede.

They will now lock horns against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday (April 10). The Knight Riders also opened their account on a winning note by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Commenting on Knight Riders’ team, Gavaskar said:

“Kolkata does not have a big star in their ranks but the younger players are more than making up for it with their energy and enthusiasm.”

The legendary batsman Gavaskar also said that the Super Kings are up for the tough test against the Knight Riders.

“Chennai Super Kings will want to carry the momentum of winning their comeback game but they have a tough game against another winner of their first match, the Kolkata Knight Riders,” he opined.

Meanwhile, the upcoming game will mark Super Kings’ comeback on their home ground after two years. And Sunil Gavaskar is expecting a jam-packed stadium.

“It will be a huge moment for the Chennai Super Kings fans who will get to see their beloved team in action after two years, and you can be sure the M A Chidambaram stadium will be packed to the rafters and there won’t be much else apart from yellow seen at the ground,” he wrote.
