After losing a couple of matches on the bounce, Kolkata Knight Riders returned to winning ways after beating the Delhi Daredevils by 71 runs in the 13th match of the tournament. It was some wonderful batting by Nitish Rana and Andre Russell which propelled the hosts to a score of 200 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a sensational final over by Rahul Tewati in the final over which never really allowed the hosts to get to the 210 mark.
Chasing a big target, Delhi got off to the worst possible starts. They lost three wickets for just 24 runs. However, the duo of Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell revived the hopes with some wonderful hitting. However, the dismissal of Pant ended Delhi’s resistance. Maxwell scored a brilliant 47 of 22 deliveries but it wasn’t enough. The visitors lost their last 5 wickets for just 17 runs which eventually handed Kolkata a comprehensive 71 runs victory.
Shivam Mavi was part of the playing XI for the 2nd time in succession. The 19-year old who impressed in the U-19 World Cup looked in superb rhythm during the match. He bagged the prized wicket of the Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir with a rising delivery. It was a fast delivery which beat Gambhir for pace. It hit his inside edge and disturbed the timbers.
He bowled a couple of overs and returned with a wicket conceding only 14 runs. Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav was the most successful bowler for KKR bagging three wickets each. Meanwhile, there is no doubt about the fact that Mavi has emerged as a find for Kolkata. He clicked 145 km/hr and earned the praise from former English skipper Micheal Vaughan. He was very impressed with the fast bowler and predicted that the 19-year-old will play for India pretty soon.
