Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Dinesh Karthik‘s six sealed a win for his side and ended Rajasthan Royals‘ winning streak at home. The visitors dominated the game from the very start. Out of the three frontline spinners, it was Piyush Chawla’s day to shine.

The veteran spinner Chawla got the crucial wicket of all-rounder Ben Stokes. The Englishman looked in good touch and was set to take his side to a good total.
But he got out at a crucial juncture of the game, leaving the home side high and dry. Chawla finished his spell with figures of one for 18 from his four overs. Kolkata went on to win the game by 7 wickets and seven balls to spare.

Spinner relishes the challenge of bowling Powerplays:
Having been bowled in the powerplays from the very start of this season, Chawla relishes the opportunity but is also aware of the challenge.
The prominent spinner also enjoys the competition in the dressing room and feels the combination can win KKR many games in the time to come.
“Not easy bowling 2-3 overs in the Powerplay, but at the moment I’m enjoying it. As a legspinner, I’m always trying to pick up wickets. We are fortunate to have three quality spinners, and if we bowl well in tandem, we can definitely restrict the opposition to 160-170,” he maintained.

Chawla’s experience brings in success:
The leggie from Uttar Pradesh was confident of a good show even before the start of the season.
Piyush Chawla further understands the fact that batsmen go after them in the shortest format of the game and that is where the opportunity lies.
“It is an opportunity for us to take wickets as batsmen take chances against us. So, me or Kuldeep, we get chance to pick up wickets. My role will always stay the same– to take wickets. When I joined KKR, Sunil was taking wickets and our combination worked really well,” Chawla concludes.
