Australia's Adelaide day-night cricket test against India in doubt

The possibility of this year’s Adelaide Test being a day-night Test seems to have risen a bit as India have had reportedly given a nod to play a pink-ball Test against Windies before their tour of Australia.

The Indian team will resume their rivalry with Australia for a four match Test series in the upcoming Australian summer.

The prospect of Adelaide hosting its annual fixture of day-night Test was in doubt since the BCCI was reluctant to play with the pink ball.

However, the doubt seems to be clearing a bit as the BCCI has reportedly agreed to play one of the two Tests against Windies.

The Windies, on the other hand, have already agreed to play one of their two Tests against India under floodlights. The two matches are scheduled to be played in Hyderabad and Rajkot.

India and Bangladesh are the only two Test-playing nations (other than Ireland and Afghanistan) not to have played a single day-night Test.

However, according to the reports coming out from Kolkata where an ICC meeting was held on Tuesday (April 24), India will soon play their maiden day-night Test.

“I had consulted the Indian team management, the selectors, the office bearers and all were in agreement that one of the two Tests against West Indies will be a day-night Test,” BCCI’s acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary said.

10 day-night Tests have been played till now. Australia has played the most number of day-night Test i.e. four. They have won all four of them, three in Adelaide and one in Brisbane.

The Adelaide Oval has hosted a day-night Test every summer in the last three years.

Cricket Australia (CA) is hoping to continue the tradition in the 2018 summers as well with Indian touring Down Under.
