Slaven Bilic’s side continued their commanding journey in the new season of the Premier League at Upton Park on Saturday. They beat a lackluster Chelsea side who are sinking deeper into a hole. Nemanja Matic picked up a first half Red Card after his team went one down on the day, but they could not get a result out of this game as Gary Cahill’s equalizer was cancelled out by a winner from Andy Carroll.
Here are the player ratings for the game.
West Ham United:
Adrian (2.5): Was comfortable all night, but his mistake led to the only goal from the visitors.
J Tomkins (3): Used the ball smartly when in possession and also a strong defensive display as he rarely allowed Chelsea to go past.
C Jenkinson (2.5): Though he was not so effective down the field, he was solid and assured at the back.
A Cresswell (3): Sent in dangerous crosses all day long and one of them was the ball that gave his club the lead thanks to a header from Carroll.
J Collins (2.5): Was troubled by Diego Costa for most of the game but stood tall and saw the game off with a win.
D Payet (3): A very good performance in an advanced midfield role as he held the ball up pretty well to keep the pressure on Chelsea.
M Noble (3): An energetic performance in the middle of the park as he was full of running and never gave Chelsea the space needed in the mid-field.
C Kouyate (3.5): Used his strength and skill to great effect as he put the Chelsea defense under pressure by drawing foul after foul.
M Lanzini (2.5): One of the poor performances for him this season as he almost scored an own goal and missed a tap-in at the other end.
M Zarate (3): Was smart with his movements all night causing Chelsea plenty of problems. Scored the first goal from a failed clearance to give the hosts the lead.
D Sakho (3): Set Lanzini up with a great piece of skill and also got Matic sent off by drawing a foul.

A Carroll (3.5): Came off the bench and scored almost immediately as he headed home from a sublime cross by Cresswell to win his team the game.
Chelsea:
A Begovic (2.5): Was not really solid when needed but could not do much for both the goals that went past him.
K Zouma (3): Was reliable for most of the game down the flank but made mistakes that should have cost his side.
Azpilicueta (1.5): A horrid day as he was beaten by pace and movement down the flank. Was also at fault as he was over-powered in the air by Carroll for the winner.
G Cahill (2.5): Was not too bad at the back and made some crucial interceptions. Also scored his team’s only goal with an opportunistic finish.
J Terry (3): Was solid at the back as he made blocks and interceptions when needed. Was decisive in his own penalty area.
C Fabregas (2.5): Scored a goal that was marginally offside but was not as effective during the game as he would have liked.
E Hazard (2.5): Was often crowded out by the West Ham defenders as he rarely found space to weave his magic.
N Matic (2): Lost his head when he barged into Sakho for the second yellow in the first half that left his team lop-sided.
Willian (2.5): Was dangerous with set-pieces as he has been during this season. Also picked up an assist for Cahill’s goal.
Ramires (2): Hardly contributed to his team at either end of the field as he often gave possession away and provided a little cover for his back four.
Diego Costa (2.5): Bullied the West Ham defense at times but was far from a convincing display as he was often a lonely figure up top.
