Stats:  Bowlers who have conceded 100 plus runs in an ODI innings

The hapless Indian bowlers  were battered by an opposition team like never before. South Africa batsmen brought them to their knees at Wankhede, Mumbai in the fifth and final match of the ODI series. Among the Indian bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar has conceded most runs in the match. He conceded 106 runs, the highest by an Indian bowler in an innings. The previous record was held by Ishant Sharma, who conceded 87 runs.

South Africa scored the highest ever ODI total in the Indian subcontinent and the third highest in the history of ODI cricket.

It was a perfect relay race combined of strategy, speed, skill and athleticism. South Africa cruised  past 400 run mark buoyant on three centuries of Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers.

Notwithstanding, they wrecked havoc on the Indian bowlers without any difficulty. For South Africa, these three batsmen took the responsibility to post 439 run target for India in the series decider of the five-match ODI series at Wankhede, Mumbai.

22-year-old opener Quinton de Kock laid out a platform for a big total. He scored 109 off 87 balls which were comprised of 17 boundaries and one six. At the same time, Faf de Plessis played the role of an anchor.

When AB de Villiers entered the pitch he has the chance to farm on the pitch. So, he did what to India bowlers for what he is famous. He is popularly called as Mr. 360 for his ability to play the ball around the park. He hit 11 sixes and only three boundaries on the way to his 61 balls 119.

He played the lap shot to hit Bhuvneshar Kumar for a massive six over the mid-wicket boundary. His pull to a slow, short pitch delivery of Mohit Sharma was fascinating to watch. Du Plessis with a sore cramp leg also joined De Villiers to make a mockery of the Indian bowlers.

An unfortunate and unwanted record. But, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was clueless and was forced to join those eight bowlers in the world who have conceded more than 100 runs in an ODI innings.

The one-time bowling sensation Kumar, who took the first wicket in the first delivery of the first over of his debut match, was proved too much generous while bowling to De Villiers.

 

However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not the only Indian to have conceded most runs in an innings. Bowlers like Tim Southee is the famous name in the list. Even legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan conceded 99 runs in an innings. Before Kumar, another Indian bowler Vinay Kumar conceded 101 runs against Australia at Bangalore, though Rohit Sharma’s match winning 209 in the first innings dwarfed his expensive bowling figure. Australia even after James Faulkner’s 73 balls 116 succumbed to a 57 run defeat.
