If Chelsea were expecting to sign John Stones in the January Transfer window to sure-up their defense then they have been given a huge blow after Everton revealed that their club captain Phil Jagielka has been ruled out for up to 9 weeks due to knee ligament injury.
Roberto Martinez came out and confirmed the news by saying: “I wouldn’t expect anything longer than eight to nine weeks,” Martinez said when asked about the defender’s recovery timetable.
This has closed any hopes of Chelsea making any attempts of signing Stones as during the winter transfer window, Jagielka would be still recovering from his injury and Stones cannot be allowed t leave Goodison Park in that state.
As for Everton, summer signing Ramiro Funes Mori was signed in the summer and he was the one who came on to replace Jagielka during the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal. Funes Mori is expected to feature a lot more in the upcoming matches with Jagielka out injured.
Everton do have some good news on the injury front as Leighton Baines is expected to return anytie soon after recovering from his injury.
