Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Daniel Sturridge is likely to miss the Capital One Cup match against Bournemouth at Anfield. Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference Klopp confirmed Sturridge will be assessed ahead of the game with Bournemouth on Wednesday, and he has not returned to training yet.

The Liverpool manager, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said: “There’s nothing new. Sturridge is getting better but not quick enough to change the situation for us tomorrow.”

Sturridge is yet to feature since Jurgen Klopp took over Liverpool, and has suffered a knee injury after a training ground collison with Jordon Ibe. Klopp also confirmed there will be few changes for the Bournemouth game.

“We will see who can train today, and then we will make a team with for sure one or two young players.

“I really want to win and that is the reason why we change.

“We have to change the team a bit.

“I don’t know how many changes we will make.

“I make the changes not because this tournament is not important.

“It is always because we believe we can win with the team we play. It is what we will do with this team.”

Liverpool have drawn their first three game under Klopp against Tottenham, Rubin Kazan and Southampton, but the German is not disappointed with the results.

“We had results, not the most satisfying results in the world but we didn’t have easy opponents.

“Tottenham away, not easy, Rubin Kazan, not easy and Southampton have lost no away games this season.

“I have no problems with this. I knew that when you’re new in a club you have to accept that the way is hard. We don’t have friendly games to get better.”
