Harbhajan Singh is undoubtedly one of the best spinners of not just India but of the world. His records speak on behalf of him. Geeta Basra, on the other hand, has had a not so successful Bollywood career. She always stayed in the news as Bhajji’s special someone. The beginning of their love story dates back to 2007 when they were introduced to each other through a common friend. Here’s a look back at some of the key events in their eight year long love story.
Quiet entry
Harbhajan Singh took part in a dance reality show named ‘Ek Haseena, Ek Khiladi’ along with telly actress Mona Singh in 2008 and went on to win that show. The cricketer was put up in a 5-star hotel in Bandra for the promotion of the show and rumours began when Geeta visited Bhajji in the hotel. But, she claimed them to be just “good friends” and were just hanging out with a bunch of common friends.
A similar incident took place in 2010 when Geeta was spotted in Film City Studios on the set of a reality dance show named ‘Zara Nachke Dikha‘ for which Bhajji had been shooting as a celebrity guest along with Irfan Pathan for the final episode. Geeta was seen going into a vanity van to meet Harbhajan just a short while after Irfan came out of the van.
SRK took a note
Shah Rukh Khan decided to tease Harbhajan at the IPL awards ceremony which Shah Rukh hosted. He asked, “Bhajji apka ghar kab Basra hai?” Bhajji couldn’t stop blushing and SRK immediately said him “Gita ki kasam kha kar kaho!”
Opening up
The duo were spotted together at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida for the Formula F1 race in 2012. They were then seen together at the IPL parties hosted by Mukesh and Nita Ambani at their house. They were also spotted having a dinner with Sachin Tendulkar.
Music on my mind
Geeta is a huge fan ofthe Romanian band, Deepside Deejays and she wanted to hook Bhajji to that band back in 2012. Some of the tracks including Get Shaky, Beautiful Days and remixed versions of Never Be Alone and Don’t Say It’s Over are always present in Geeta’s playlist. She was keen that Bhajji would accompany her to one of the band’s concert.
Big step
Bhajji played a guest appearance in a film called ‘Second Hand Husband’ starring Geeta. The film hit the big screens earlier this year in July. In a scene in the movie, when Geeta finds a perfect man, the camera pans towards (none other than) Harbhajan Singh.
