Bangladesh women’s cricket team created history on Sunday (June 10) as they lifted their maiden Women’s Asia Cup (2018) title by beating the reigning champions India by three wickets at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Salma Khatoun-led team beat six-time champions India to script history for the women’s cricket in Bangladesh.
Batting first, India had a poor start as they lost Smriti Mandhana (7) early in the fourth over. To add to this, they also lost Deepti Sharma and Mithali Raj (11) as India were reeling at 28 for three.
Since then, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur took the onus on herself to do the bulk of the scoring for the side.
Harmanpreet continued with her game as India lost wickets at the other end. The Bangladeshi bowlers were right on the money as India struggled to get going.
However, Harmanpreet played some gorgeous looking shots to take the team’s score over the 100-run mark.

Kaur contributed with 56 runs with the help of seven boundaries as India finished for 112 runs in 20 allotted overs.
Meanwhile, in reply, Bangladesh got to brilliant start banking on their openers. The opening pair added 35 runs for the first wicket before Poonam Yadav drew the first blood.
Indian bowlers found it hard to break the Bangladesh defense as they marched towards the victory. Nigar Sultan (27) played a gem of an innings to take her inch closer to their first trophy.
However, Poonam (four for nine) bowled a terrific spell to take the game to the last over. With nine runs required off the last over, Bangladesh crossed the target in the last ball of the match to stun India.
Here is how the Twitter reacted after Bangladesh lift the title:
