Brazil forward Neymar Jr has moved level with Romario in third on Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorers list. The forward achieved the feat against Austria in the pre-World Cup friendly. He marked his first start since February with a dazzling hit.
Neymar found the net after 63 minutes, and it put Tite’s side 2-0 up. The 26-year-old needs just seven more goals to draw level with Brazilian legend Ronaldo.
Goal number 55 came after crashing in a superb goal against Croatia at Anfield last weekend to seal a 2-0 victory. Neymar’s ultimate target will be to catch a fellow Santos icon in Pele. The legendary goal scorer is well clear at the top of the list on 77.
After equalling with Romario, the former Brazil star has congratulated Brazil’s skipper via social media,
“Numbers can always be overcome. Today, our play-maker Neymar reached the mark of 55 goals scored by the Brazilian football team. With this number, he equals me, as the third top scorer of the selection. By reaching the mark, the good kid repeated my celebration as a tribute.”

The PSG star after achieving the feat said,
“I wanted to honour him somehow. It’s an idol not only for me but for Brazilians and the world; I have maximum respect for our baixola.”
Romaro took no time to thank the Brazilian forward,
“Thanks, Neymar. May you follow making many goals, especially in this cup!“
“Some curiosities: I scored 55 goals in 74 games. Neymar scored 55 in 85 games. Pele is our top scorer, scored 95 goals with hopscotch. Followed by Ronaldo, with 67 goals. At Age 26, Neymar still has many records to overcome,” Romario concluded.
Brazil begins their World Cup campaign against Switzerland in seven days. The group also includes Costa Rica and Serbia.
