Recently Karim Benzema was detained in France in relation to the blackmailing scandal involving him and Mathieu Valbuena and in the light of stones being hurled at the Madrid superstar, Marca, a Spanish daily has come out in support of Benzema declaring him innocent.
The courts haven’t delivered a verdict in the case, but Marca has reached its own conclusion based on Benzema’s supposed actions in the past. According to Marca, Benzema rejected a blank cheque offered to him by Arsenal and is thus not a money monger or a greedy individual. Hence proving that money is not a driving force for the French forward and he would then never have been an accomplice in the blackmailing plot to extort money out of Valbuena. (sure Arsenal! Blank cheque!)
Mathieu Valbuena had received calls allegedly blackmailing him to pay 50,000 to 100,000 euros, in the absence of which a certain sex tape involving his partner would be leaked online. In the proceedings that followed, Djibril Cisse was arrested and detained for a day but was later cleared of all the charges. The spotlight then shifted to Benzema who was also suspected to be an accomplice in the blackmailing process. Benzema’s lawyer when talking to journalists said that Benzema has ‘Nothing to hide’. He further added that “He supports his friend, Mathieu Valbuena, with all his heart. He took no part, I state this again – no part – in the blackmail or blackmail attempts. Karim Benzema will show he acted in good faith, and I hope this will be seen as soon as possible.”
Whether Benzema will be convicted or not, that only time will tell and if the verdict stands against the superstar, then the Madrid forward will most likely be sentenced to a term of 5 years. Not good times for the Benzema camp!
