The former England skipper, Allan Lamb, has backed India to win the upcoming five-match series against England commencing on August 1 at Edgbaston. Meanwhile, India will start as the favourites in the Test series having won nine of their last ten series.
On the other hand, England have struggled under Je Root. They have lost two of their past three series before drawing against Pakistan.
As a result, many feel India has the best chance to win this series since 2007. And now, Allan Lamb has also backed India to win the Tests.
“India will start as the favourites going into the series. I expect the conditions to be in their favour as the series unfolds. It has not rained here much in the last few weeks. This will result in wickets being on the drier side, and that should bring the Indian spinners into play,”Lamb told TOI.
Furthermore, Lamb backed India to play two spinners in the opening Test. His first choice is Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin for the first game. Lamb also seemed pretty impressed with young Kuldeep.
“I am impressed with Kuldeep. Yes, Joe Root and a few others did read him in the one-dayers, but I would want to still see him in action in the Tests. He and Ashwin will be a good combination to go with,” he added.
He also said India would benefit from players who have got county experience. The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma and Ashwin have recently plied their trade in England. In conclusion, Allan Lamb predicted a scoreline of 3-1 in favour of India.
