Women’s singles final on Saturday saw Li Na become the first Asian player to win the Australian Open title. Li Na played out a very determined and disciplined match out against first-time finalist Dominika Cibulkova winning it 7-6 6-0 in just around an hour and half’s time.

Having previously twice losing out in the finals of the Australian Open, it was third-time-lucky for the 4th seeded Li Na who truly made all the right moves enroute to winning her maiden Australian Open.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the first set with the Li Na breaking Cibulkova’s opening serve but the 20th seed responded well breaking soon and getting it back on her serve. Li Na once again managed to break her serve but couldn’t consolidate that break and wrap up the set leading 6-5 eventually losing her serve and taking the set into a tie-breaker.

It was all one-way traffic from this point on as Li Na certainly turned it up a notch as she brought her A-Game into play and wrapped up the set in what was the first tie-breaker in a Women’s singles final since 2003.

There was only one winner in the match from the start of the second set as Li Na proved just too good for Dominika Cibulkova as she lost her serve thrice in the second set and failed to put any pressure of the first Chinese Player to win the Australian Open making it two Grand-Slams for Li Na.

The men’s final between Rafael Nadal and Stanislas Wawrinka might be a bit more competitive than the Women’s final or atleast that’s what every Tennis fan would hope for.
