Inter Milan have signed Croatian right-back Sime Vrsaljko on loan from Spanish club, Atletico Madrid until the end of the season.

Sime Vrsaljko played six out of seven matches for the runners-up of the FIFA World Cup 2018, Croatia.

Inter Milan have an option to buy the Croatia international, who started six of his country’s seven games at the FIFA World Cup 2018 – including the final, for a fee reportedly totalling £21.34m.

Vrsaljko spent three seasons in Seria A playing for Genoa and Sassuolo between 2013 and 2016. He is now all set to come back to the Seria A and join his national team-mates Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic at the San Siro.

According to various sources, Inter Milan are trying to sign the Croatia captain and Real Madrid star, Luka Modric. It looks very difficult at the moment, but the Italian club is still trying to negotiate.

Vrsaljko will be Joao Cancelo’s replacement who has joined Serie A rivals Juventus. And Vrsaljko’s arrival at Inter could affect Matteo Darmian’s future.

The San Siro was touted as a possible destination for the want-away Manchester United full-back. But Inter’s interest may now have cooled.

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid have signed PSV right-back, Santiago Arias to replace Vrsaljko at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Sime Vrsaljko’s replacement Arias was the Eredivisie Player of the Year last season. He represented Colombia at this summer’s World Cup in Russia – where they reached the last-16, losing to England. PSV signed the 26-year-old form Sporting Lisbon in 2013.

Arias went on to make 173 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring ten goals and helping with 21 assists. The Columbian won the Eredivisie in his final three seasons in the Netherlands, as well as lifting the John Cruyff Shield twice.

If Inter Milan now somehow manages to negotiate with Real Madrid for Modric, then the Seria A club will be ready to start the new season on high.
