Another blow for Manchester United as Anthony Martial left the Wembley stadium on crutches after France’s 2-0 defeat to England on Tuesday.
England took the game home thanks to strikes from Wayne Rooney and Bamidele Alli and the game ended in a goalless campaign for the French national side.
But the most striking event of the match apart from a Rooney goal was the injury to Manchester United wonder boy Anthony Martial. Martial is said to have ‘knocked’ his foot and the injury is nothing serious as Didier Deschamps, the French coach told the reporters. “He was in quite a bit of pain after the match. He got a kick in the penalty area” added Deschamps.
Martial played for 67 minutes after which he was replaced by the Athletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.
Martial has been a find for United scoring 8 goals in his 14 appearances for the Red Devils. Martial’s playing style has been compared to that of Thierry Henry and his campaign so far for Manchester United has been commendable.
Whether the injury is serious or just a precautionary measure will be known later. But if it turns out to be a serious injury, it will be a big blow for United having lost Michael Carrick to an ankle injury last week.
The Red Devils are at No. 4 in the league and to further their chances in the league they need their strikers. An injury to both Carrick and Martial can be a major setback for United in the upcoming matches including the Champions League.
