Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets said that the players are now united than ever  in opposition to La Liga’s plans to play one regular season game in the United States or Canada.

The La Liga players has rejected to play one regular season game outside Spain.

At a meeting on Wednesday, Busquets and Barca’s fourth captain Sergio Roberto joined captains and vice-captains representing each of the 20 league club in the AFE’s headquarters in Madrid to discuss their opposition to the plans.

Busquets said:
“We’re all united, the union is strong. And as our president has said, we all think the same way on this. Together we are stronger and this [opposing the plans] is a path that we all want to take. We believe it’s what is best for football.”

Meanwhile, AFE president David Aganzo said the players were angry and surprised about the proposals. He also revealed that the players would not rule out strike action if it was necessary to block the proposal. The president also informed that they “would do everything possible to avoid this.”

However, La Liga said the organising body plans to meet the AFE to discuss the proposals. Also,  the plan for the game in the U.S. would go “hand in hand with clubs and institutions.”

La Liga president Javier Tebas in an interview on Thursday also talked about the matter. He informed that the league’s most biggest game ‘The ElClasico” between Real Madrid and Barcelona would not take place outside Spain. Even, if gets finalized that one regular season game will be played outside Spain.

“Logistically, playing the Clasico, at least the La Liga Clasico, in somewhere like New York is not viable.”
