India’s limited-overs captain MS Dhoni is all set to feature in domestic cricket after a long span of 8 years. Dhoni will be seen donning the colors of his stateside Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Vijay Hazare Trophy is India’s domestic 50 overs competition, comprising of state teams. With the proposed series against Pakistan unlikely to take place, Dhoni has chosen to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, in a bid to maintain his form and fitness for the limited overs tour of Australia.
Rajesh Verma, Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) secretary, said that Dhoni would feature for Jharkhand in the upcoming tournament. “We have spoken to Dhoni and he has said that in all likelihood he will be available if there’s no Pakistan series to play for Jharkhand in Vijay Hazare Trophy. We have not discussed as to how many matches he will play or whether he would like to lead the side. But if he wants obviously, he will lead the side.”
“His presence obviously will be a great boost for the boys. Whenever Dhoni has got an opportunity, he has had encouraging words for the boys. The only day before I saw him training at the main stadium alone. Right now the senior team is in Tripura for Ranji Trophy,” Verma said.
Dhoni’s presence will indeed be a great boost for Jharkhand as a player of Dhoni’s experience is an asset for any side. More than anything else, the move will help Dhoni to remain fit for the all important tour of Australia.
