Former Indian wicketkeepers Syed Kirmani and Farokh Engineer has heaped praises on Rishabh Pant. In fact, it is well-known fact that it is not easy to keep in the England conditions where the ball moves in all sorts of directions.
Thus, Rishabh Pant was able to show great promise as he took seven catches. It was his first match in the red ball version and he did really well with the gloves.
Furthermore, Pant hit the second ball of his innings to a six. He had the confidence to dance down the track and lofted Adil Rashid over the long on boundary.
“Pant has shown immense promise. His reflexes are very good. He took catches with the ball moving. It shows how good he is behind the wickets,” Engineer said yesterday after attending a condolence meeting in memory of former India skipper Ajit Wadekar organized by the BCCI.
Meanwhile, Farokh Engineer said he would be interested to know whether Rishabh Pant hit the second ball six out of nervousness or he had the confidence to do so.
“I have got to ask him whether he hit that shot out of nervousness or confidence. If it was confidence, then hats off to him,” Engineer said.
On the other hand, Syed Kirmani also said that Pant fearlessness shows he is a cool player.
Kirmani remarked, “The way he opened his account in Test cricket shows that he’s a bindaas cricketer.”
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant also showed the stomach for the fight with the bat as he scored 24 runs out of 51 balls and molded his natural game. Pant will like to keep impressing with the bat as well as the gloves.
The fourth Test match will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from today.
