Sergio Ramos, who won the UEFA best defender of the year award was surprised to not see his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo at the awards ceremony.
Ramos won the UEFA Best Defender of the Year award.
The former Real Madrid player didn’t attend the awards ceremony because he was denied from being the player of the year, according to reports. Ronaldo’s former team-mate, Luka Modric won the player of the year award along with the midfielder of the year award.
However, both Ramos and Modric were surprised not to see Ronaldo last night. The skipper said he was informed only when the microphones were being set up. But he was not so surprised, as he suggested it is typical Ronaldo behaviour.
“We found out practically when the microphones were being set up, and we were surprised.”
The Spain and Real Madrid captain didn’t forget to thank his team-mates after being awarded the defender of the year award.
“Being the captain is a great privilege and a responsibility to lead a great group with different cultures. Apart from being team-mates, it is important to be a family; we have always felt that way, and it is the key to success. We hope it lasts a while longer because this is a golden age full of legendary players. I hope we can continue many years of celebrating these type of titles.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid dominated the night completely with all awards belonging to them.
Keylor Navas was named as the Goalkeeper of the year. Pernille Harder of Wolfsburg and Denmark was named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, and Georgia international defender, Guram Kashia won the inaugural UEFA EqualGame Award.
