India skipper Virat Kohli on Friday became the second fastest Indian batsmen after Sunil Gavaskar to score 6000 Test runs during the ongoing fourth Test against England at Southampton.
Meanwhile, Kohli only needed six runs to achieve the milestone at the start of the match. He reached the landmark with a boundary off James Anderson in the 22nd over.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been in rich form this season. He delivered in those challenging conditions, where he struggled the last time he visited this country in 2014. He started off with a classy 149 and a gutsy 51 in the first Test at Edgbaston before managing only 23 and 17 in an innings defeat at Lord’s. At Trent Bridge, Kohli was at his best again, scoring 97 and 103 leading the charge from the front.
Kohli is the second fastest batsman from India to reach the landmark after Sunil Gavaskar, who made his debut in 1971 and took 9 years and 323 days to reach 6000 Test runs. The legendary Indian opener brought up 6000 runs in his 65th Test and 117th innings. Virat Kohli got there from 70 Tests and 119 innings. Sachin Tendulkar got to 6000 Test runs in 76 Tests and 120 innings.
India in charge on day two
India pegged back after losing two early wickets in the morning session of day two at Southampton. Starting at 19 for one on day two, India lost KL Rahul at the score of 37. Rahul (19) once again perishes after getting a good start, third times in a row.
Stuart Broad picked both the wickets and this time it was Shikhar Dhawan, who departed to a fuller delivery. This brought India skipper Virat Kohli in the middle, who will be keen to revive the innings with Cheteshwar Pujara.
