England scored 86 runs and lost three wickets in the opening session of Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test match at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. Thus, the locals had a better session as they kept the Indian bowlers at bay.
There wasn’t much in the pitch for the Indian fast bowlers and Ravichandran Ashwin could not made use of the bowler’s footmarks as he looked toothless. However, Jasprit Bumrah who has impressed with his accurate line and length was able to produce the first wicket. Bumrah produced the outside edge of Alastair Cook which was taken in the third attempt by KL Rahul.

Joe Root and Keaton Jennings put together a fine partnership.
Moeen Ali who had breathed down the neck of the Indian batsmen was promoted to the third place in the batting order. Ali bats at number three for his County, Worcestershire. However, the southpaw batsman could not carry forward his bowling confidence in his batting.
Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma received two warnings for getting his backfoot in the restricted area. However, Ishant provided the second breakthrough as Ali’s outside edge was brilliantly taken by KL Rahul. Subsequently, Karnataka player dived low to his right and plunged on to a fine catch.

India was able to get the wicket of Keaton Jennings at the stroke of Lunch.
In fact, KL Rahul has been brilliant in the slip cordon and continues to digest some brilliant catches.
However, Joe Root and Keaton Jennings were able to keep Indian bowlers at bay. The England opener Jennings slowly started gaining confidence as he found his touch.
The pair was able to add more than 50 runs to put England noses back in front. However, Mohammad Shami was able to provide the much-needed breakthrough as plumbed Keaton Jennings in front of the wickets. In fact, the ball kept slightly low as Jennings was dismissed after scoring 36.

Why does India keep playing Ashwin as their spinner? #ENGvIND

England have been good post Moeen's wicket but I'm very disappointed with Ashwin. Too many variations, too many balls with 90KPH+ and too many balls straight. Where is patience ??♂️ #INDvENG #ENGvIND

A pitch where Moen ali took 5 wickets and Ashwin is struggling to get a single one. Doesn't he look out of color.? India need Ashwin before it becomes too late. #ENGvIND

Ashwin to take 4 wickets in this innings. Hopefully five. And hopefully before it’s too late. #ENGvIND

Don’t see anything in this pitch for England to get bundled out under 200. 3-1 looking more likely #ENGvIND

Great test match wicket as usual in England. All kinds of bowlers – seamers, pacers, spinners can pick up wickets. Thinking about what pacers, seamers can do on wickets in the subcontinent – nothing. #ENGvIND

How long you keep a star player like Root quite??
He's looking a good for a big one and at most crucial stage#ENGvIND #IndvsEng— Jatin Gulati (70) ?? (@jatinininin) September 1, 2018
#ICC request to check videos of Joe Root running on dangerous area to help Ali, this is against the spirit of game #EngvInd #ENGvIND #BCCI #ECB #SonySix

The only way #Ashwin could have redeemed that horrid slog-sweep off Ali was by putting up a better bowling performance than him. Has been toothless so far.
Match, and series, slipping away. #EngVInd

Most catches for an Indian fielder in a series
13 R Dravid vs Aus, 2004
12 E Solkar vs Eng, 1972-73
11 KL RAHUL vs Eng, 2018 *
11 by Rahul is the most in an away series for an Indian fielder#ENGvIND— Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) September 1, 2018
Jimmy never gets warned for running on the wicket, no right arm overs do. Umps take it for granted, and therefore don’t protect left hand bats.
Run on outside a right handers off stump and all hell breaks loose. #fact#engvind— Graemefowler (@GFoxyFowler) September 1, 2018
A couple of huge appeals for LBW against Joe Root in the last two overs but he's still there and so is Keaton Jennings. England's lead moves to 56. Riveting stuff. #ENGvIND

@ashwinravi99 Looking ineffective. He would love to bowl in this wicket but certainly he is not accurate enough to bag a wicket. #ENGvIND @cricbuzz #IndvEng
