Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard appears to be punching a man in a street bust-up which was captured on CCTV outside a Merseyside bar back in 2013. The video footage has finally revealed the true story.

The 35-year-old England football legend was seen aiming a thump at Paul Lloyd, a hotel owner when an argument went out of control.

Outside that bar, Gerrard, who played 114 matches for England including 38 as skipper, his wife and a group of local people were seen on CCTV fighting with Lloyd.

Earlier it was suggested that Gerrard, when celebrating his testimonial for Liverpool along with wife Alex, was trying to cool down the situation.

Prosecutor Richard Haworth clarified: “Mr Gerrard was seeking to avoid any involvement or any form of aggression or confrontation, and as far as he was concerned was attempting to defuse the situation.”

Eventually, three people were questioned in that case earlier this year. But later no such action was taken against Gerrard as the Merseyside Police reviewed the CCTV footage.

At the time of the confrontation, Steven Gerrard was skipper of England who had to abide by the strict code of conduct of FA.

The veteran midfielder, now playing for LA Galaxy, himself has also earlier spoken of how the Three Lions captaincy should not be “disrespected”.

After a stunning 504 appearances for Liverpool, he moved to MLS side LA Galaxy when then last season ended and currently lives in the US along with 33-year-old Alex and their three children Ella, Lexie, and Lourdes.

However two weeks ago he returned to the UK amidst rumours that he may rejoin his old side or might train with them during the MLS off-season.
