Team India skipper Virat Kohli said it is frustrating to not capitalize on the commanding positions in the series. India lost the first match of the series by a margin of 31 runs. Furthermore, they lost the fourth Test match by just 60 runs.
Thus, the results of both of these matches could have gone India’s way had the tourists applied the finishing touches. In fact, the visitors were in a dominating position on many occasions in the previous Test match at Southampton. However, they gave away the advantage baton to the hosts and could not make the most of their situations.
India could not make the most of the dominating position.
Consequently, it is frustrating for the Indian captain Virat Kohli who has scored 544 runs in the series and ended up on the losing side. Kohli has also not received the same kind of support he would have liked.

“I think it was a competitive series, to begin with. We’ve already understood and admitted the things that we haven’t done well; to get into competitive positions you understand that you have the ability but that gets you so far and then your mental toughness comes in to play. That’s the most frustrating thing – that we have shown our skillsets to get into positions but we haven’t capitalized on them. All we can do is get better as a team,” Virat Kohli said while talking to Michael Holding before the match.
Therefore, India has lacked the knockout punch and England were able to win the crucial junctions of the series. There were many instances when India had England on the mat but could not deliver the coup de grace.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli believes he seeks a perfect balance in his life. If he is in the right frame of mind, then he can deliver the right type of performances.
“I’m more focused on having a very solid life and being happy with life and doing the right thing on a daily basis, then everything else seems like an incredible journey and part of a larger picture. For me, the larger picture is always going to be life. If I’m solid and if I’m doing the right thing in my life then I’m much more confident on the field.”
