Manchester United reportedly offered Gareth Bale’s main agent £14.2million to arrange the Walesman’s transfer from Real Madrid last summer, according to a top publication from Spain.
Manchester United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is desperate to sign world class players and Bale right now finds himself at the top of the most viable options for United in the transfer market.
Back in 2013, the 26-year-old striker rejected the Red Devils’ offer and choose a move to the Bernabeu but for the last two transfer windows he has been linked with a return to Premier League.
Spanish media outlet AS has now revealed that Manchester United offered an astonishing £14.2m to Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett to make sure that the attacker moved to Old Trafford rather than Madrid and Barnett was also trying his best to convince the winger to choose Manchester United as his next destination.
But the deal didn’t happen and Bale is still linked to a potential move to the Old Trafford. After the shock defeat at the hand of Barcelona the Real Madrid attacker might finally seal a lucrative move to play under van Gaal next summer.
Bale, who became the most expensive footballer in the history of football after Real Madrid in 2013 signed him from Tottenham for a staggering £85m, has always been the Red Devil’s top priority target since Ed Woodward became Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman.
In 2013 Woodward first attempted to hijack Bale, after David Moyes was appointed, but Real Madrid convincingly defeated him to sign the winger. But with huge financial boost, Woodward continued to watch over Bale’s progress at the Bernabeu and, following fresh reports of unrest in the Spanish capital, United are planning to make another bid.
Manchester United are said to be ready to enter into any kind of negotiations with Bale’s agent for a proposed move which will include David de Gea going back to his country, as the Spaniard’s move to Real Madrid was shuttered on deadline day in summer transfer window.
Also Louis van Gaal is ready to place an offer on the sense that Gareth Bale is yet to fully settle in Spain. Despite playing in his third campaign at Santiago Bernabeu after his £85m transfer from Tottenham back in 2013; Bale has surprisingly still not able to win over the majority of Madridistas.
However, Gareth Bale recently claimed that he is very much enjoying his time in Bernabeu, but denied to commit any long-term future to the Spanish giants.
The Wales winger told the Mirror, “My plan when I first started playing football was to try to reach the pinnacle – and Real Madrid is the pinnacle. Now I’m here, I want to win trophies and to win titles, and just do the best I can for my career,
“I will never say never when it comes to going back to the Premier League, because you don’t know what the future holds. But I am enjoying my time here. I am very happy. I had conversations with Rafa in the summer and I am delighted about where I am going to be playing this season.
“I like the role behind the striker and feel that’s my position. I can drift into areas, find the space and, when I get the ball, I can attack. It’s my best position – and I think this year is going to be a great season.”
