Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has backed Arsenal to win the Premier league this term because the Gunners have his former teammate Petr Cech.

Drogba when speaking in a promotional event of his autobiography ‘Commitment’ offered full support to Arsene Wenger’s troops, as his former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech is now with Arsenal.

“Unfortunately Chelsea are too far [behind in the title race], so I will go for my friend Petr Cech at Arsenal.”

When the Ivorian was asked if he thinks Arsenal the strength to win Premier League, Drogba calmly said, “They have got Petr Cech!”

As for the disastrous start of Chelsea’s this season, which have placed them 15th in the  league table already losing seven matches, the Chelsea legend admitted Jose Mourinho’s team right now find themselves in a totally different situation.

But despite their current situation, Drogba is confident his former team-mates has the strength to turn their frustrating season around, as the back-to-back wins against Norwich in Premier League and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Champions League boosted their confidence.

“It’s a different situation for club, manager and players,” Drogba said.

“When you have won the league the season before and you find yourselves in the last three or four teams in the table after four or five games, it is a shock.

“I know the players and the manager have the ability to change this.

“They have won two consecutive games in the last two days, so I think it is kind of a new start.”

Drogba has scored 164 goals in 282 matches in his two stints at Stamford Bridge, which gives him the right to pass judgements on current League strikers.

England international Jamie Vardy is on the verge of breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive League matches if he scores one again when Leicester City plays against Manchester United on Saturday.

Despite the impressive stats and press from so many pundits, Drogba thinks Vardy have to score consistently for one of Premier league’s big boys to accurately assess his qualities.

“He is one of the most efficient at the moment. Scoring goals in a team like Leicester is one thing – but you have to go to the next level and score.”

“What he is doing right now is fantastic, though.” Drogba said.
