The Indian selectors might be inclined to include Rishabh Pant for the five-match ODI series against the Windies. In fact, Pant can be added as the cover for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Meanwhile, India’s former skipper MS Dhoni is not in the best of forms with the bat. Dhoni is going to be in the squad for the next year World Cup. However, it is not a bad idea to groom Rishabh Pant who has shown the right promise.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was recently rested from the Asia Cup. Thus, it is unlikely that the Indian captain will be given another rest in the series against Windies. Furthermore, it is still not clear whether the selectors will announce the squad for the first three One-Dayers or the whole series. The first match will take place at Guwahati on 21st October.

It would be interesting to note the squad.
“We all know that Dhoni will play till the World Cup but there is no harm in grooming Pant, who could be a terrific No.6 or 7 batsman, who has the ability to finish games,” a senior BCCI official privy to selection matters said as per the Times of India.
Moreover, Dinesh Karthik has been decent with his performances. However, he hasn’t played the match-winning knocks. Manish Pandey has been consistent for India A but he hasn’t grabbed his opportunity for the national side.

On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to return to the ODI side after a much-needed break from the ongoing Test series.
Rishabh Pant has shown the right promise in his young career. He likes to take the attack to the opposition and his game is more suited to the limited overs format.
Furthermore, it would be a great opportunity for Pant to take a leaf out of the book of MS Dhoni. Thus, the Delhi lad can do that if he gets to play with MS Dhoni.
