South Africa were without their main strike bowler for the second and third test match because of a groin injury he received in the first test match at Mohali. He was not able to bowl in the second innings of the first Test match.
South Africa will ponder over the fitness of their prime bowler Dale Steyn till the next few days. With the series going India and their unbeaten streak at away test matches is over. The bowling has been brilliant in the test series, but their batting has been the main cause of concern.
The Delhi test match will be a chance for the South Africans to play with freedom and not worry about the outcome. The batting has showed little promise. Without Dale Steyn, the bowling lacked firepower despite Morne Morkel was the best bowler in the third test match at Nagpur.
South Africa was dealt huge blows in the form of Vernon Philander who was injured before the eve of the second test match in Bangalore. The South African attack comprised of Rabada, Imran Tahir, Simon Harmer and Morne Morkel. South Africa even called Merchant De Lange as a backup for Dale Steyn.
They would like to give Bavuma and other reserve players to give a chance. They would like to have their main players for the series against England at home.
South Africa wicketkeeper Dane Villas performance with the bat has been poor and keeping has been below par.
