Due to devastating rain and Chennai being almost under water for last couple of days, uncertainty looms large over the staging of Athletico De Kolkata-Mumbai City FC match in the ISL, scheduled to be held at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday.
The Mumbai City FC squad that participated in its ISL match in Chennai has been locked in Chennai as the team could not reach Kolkata on Thursday. One of the key players of Mumbai City FC, Sunil Chettri, Indian captain, speaking over phone from Chennai on Wednesday said, “We all are trapped in the hotel. And all the places in front our hotel has completely been under water. I do not know whether we will be able to reach Kolkata even on Friday on the match day.”
Uncertainty seems to be also increasing as Chennai government has decided to close the airport till 6th December due to this natural calamity. Still, according to the ISL organizers, efforts are to bring Mumbai City FC team out of the drained city by a military bus and take them to Bangalore. And from Bangalore the team will be brought to Kolkata.
However, the organizers of ISL seem optimistic that the match will be staged on Friday finally.
