Liverpool travelled away to St. James’ Park on Sunday evening to face off againsts Steve McClaren’s Newcastle side, with the hopes of claiming all three points and pushing for a place in the top four. However, things did not go how manager Jürgen Klopp would have liked it, as his side put in a really poor performance and were outplayed on the night. There were no goals in the first half, as both sides went into the break after a goalless 45 minutes. Though the home side had not been in great form recently, they were always expected to put up a fight. However, once the second half started, they did much more than that as they took the lead in the 69th minute of the game, when Martin Skrtel unfortunately scored an own goal.
The Reds tried their best to equalize with the chances that they managed to create, yet failed to find the right finish to those moves and it was eventually Georginio Wijnaldum who added a second towards the end to seal all three points for his side.
There were no goals scored by the Merseyside, who was rather a surprise after the tally that they had managed to net in recent weeks.
The German manager suffered his first away defeat in the league since taking over at Anfield and it was clear that the hopes of challenging for the Premier League title were once again dented.
Here are how the fans reacted on Twitter with respect to this surprising loss for Klopp’s side:
Anyway, Klopp’s 1st 12 games for #LFC is more than impressive. DDDWWWLWWWWL (58.3% win rate) scoring 21 & conceding 10.

Once again – don’t over analyse a bad day at the office. Klopp is played poker with another mans hand – will be ups & downs! #LFC.

We can’t not play Lallana. I don’t care who says otherwise. With what we have available to us he’s a must. We missed him today. #lfc

Make no mistake – Klopp is fuming today as he knows this league is up for grabs. We can be good & come close. Anything less won’t do. #LFC.

Funny how a win and you’re like happy days watch TV the rest of the evening, a loss and you sit there grumpy and just want to go to bed #LFC

@mv_jenkins Being beaten by one of the poorest sides in the premiership makes it even worse.

Klopp: “It’s important to try to be in the middle. Not nuts when we win and crazy when we lose. It’s not a reality check.” #lfc

Klopp’s honesty is so refreshing. He hates excuses – and that’s the reason why we will get better & better. #LFC.

Don’t like the hate for Allen etc, wears the red shirt it’s not his single fault for a loss today, he played well when others didn’t #LFC
