India have defeated South Africa by 337 runs and won the series 3-0 on Monday at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. The victory helped India to jump in the second position into the ICC Test ranking. South Africa, however, even after the defeat did not lose their top position.

But, India’s victory pushed Australia and Pakistan third and fourth position.

Australia will regain the second spot if they win all three matches against the visiting West India in the Frank Worrell Trophy this summer.

The Proteas remain on top of the rankings despite their first away series defeat in nine years. South Africa currently leading the points table as they are four points ahead of India and Australia.

In the coming months, India don’t have any series that could affect their position in the ranking list. As it is expected that Australia will easily defeat a weak West Indies team, who were defeated by a Cricket Australia President XI in the warm-up match by 10 wickets.

Australia will have to whitewash eight ranked West Indies in the three-match series, starting in Hobart on Thursday, to move to 111 points and ahead of India again.

Meanwhile, South Africa would like to extend their margin in the four-match  home Test series  against England, starting on Boxing Day (December 26) at Kingsmead, Durban.

Sri Lanka will tour New Zealand for two Test series. The series will start this week. New Zealand are currently at 6th position. So they would like to change their fortune at home.

On the other hand if England manages to defeat South Africa then the host have to hand over No. 1 mantle to Australia, provided the Aussies manage a 3-0 series victory over the West Indies.
