Liverpool star striker is back to warming the bench after he picked up a hamstring injury in the match against New Castle at St James Park when he was put on the field as a substitute for Firmino
This injury comes in the light of recent comments made by the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp that Sturridge needs to differeanciate between ‘serious pain’ and only ‘pain’. Having made only six appearances in the league this season, this injury gets added to the long list of injuries that have plagued the striker. The Englishman just entered the attacking foray after recovering from a knee injury that made him unavailable for over a month.
It isn’t a surprise somewhat that Sturridge has picked up an injury as his career is marred with more of injuries than game time. It was only in the 2013-14 season that Sturridge played a total of 33 games out of 43 games in the red shirt while in his other campaigns he has failed to even cross a mark of 20 games.
Liverpool currently stand at eighth position in the league and have seven games to go before a crucial League cup tie against Stoke City on 5th January. Klopp’s main objective will be to land a top four position in the league so that the team features in the Champions League next season. But the German would be left without his star striker who despite his injury history has been a good performer.
Sturridge felt pain in his thigh following which scans revealed that the frontman had damaged his muscle and thus would be sidelined for a few weeks at the minimum. Sturride has played only 55 games in the past year of football but has been influential in Liverpool’s campaign. It will be a task for Klopp to manage his players and keep backups for Sturiddge’s injury because everyone knows how inevitable they are!
