Big Bash League 2018-19: Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes - Report 1

Hobart Hurricanes were able to begin their Big Bash League 2018-19 campaign on a high as they won their first match against Brisbane Heat. Thus, it was the second loss for the Brisbane Heat. Chris Lynn had won the toss and had decided to bowl first.

1st Innings: 

D’arcy Short continued from he had left in the Big Bash League 2017-18. The southpaw opener had scored 572 runs in the previous season and thus had a stellar season. Thus, Short once again began his season on a high when he scored a fluent 67 runs from 52 balls. The left-hander went on to score four fours and as many sixes in his blistering knock.

Furthermore, George Bailey, Ben McDormett and Simon Milenko provided the finishing touches to Hobart Hurricanes. McDormett scored 25 from just 16 balls whereas the former skipper Bailey scored a quickfire 22 off just 13 balls.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman who had impressed in the first match of the season did a fine job once again. The Afghanistan mystery spinner scalped two wickets and gave away only 23 runs in his four overs quota. Furthermore, Mark Steketee also took two wickets for 36 runs.

2nd Innings:

On the other hand, Brisbane Heat could not get off to an ideal start. There was a mix up between Max Bryant and Brendon McCullum. The former New Zealand captain decided to give up his wicket after there was confusion regarding the dismissal. McCullum left his crease after making his ground when Max Bryant had already started walking towards the pavilion.

However, Chris Lynn chewed up 37 balls for his 29 runs as he scored his runs at a snail pace. On the other hand, Max Bryant was able to hit the ground running as he scored 30 from just 15 balls.

Meanwhile, Heat lost four wickets for just 56 runs in eight overs and found themselves on the backfoot. However, Ben Cutting blistering 32-ball 58 gave some hopes to the Heat camp.

On the other hand, James Faulkner had a fine day with the ball. The 2015 World Cup final hero scalped three wickets and gave only 25 runs in his spell. Furthermore, Jofra Archer bowled with fire as he scalped two wickets. Moreover, Johan Botha and Riley Meredith took two wickets each.

Brisbane Heat: 144-10, Ben Cutting 58 (32), James Faulkner: 3-25.
