It is not surprising that news sites and papers are filled with transfer rumors with less than 15 days left for the January transfer window. Top European clubs will make headlines all these 15 days as they will be linked with a number of top class players though most of those deals do not go through.

But Benjamin Mendy, the young left back from Olympique de Marseille is reportedly on the verge of leaving the Stade Velodrome in the weeks to come. Mendy, 21 is one of the hottest young prospects in Europe at the moment. He is a classy player and will only get better if he is given the right kind of exposure.

English giants Manchester United are known to be admirers of the full back. He was reportedly scouted by Louis van Gaal’s assistants during the match against Stade Rennais earlier this month. Mendy would be a perfect fit into the Manchester United squad and he will also give the manager some options at the back in the wake of all the injuries, especially the one to Luke Shaw.

The French national showed great class in the previous season as he picked up 3 assists in 33 matches. This season, he has also picked up a goal for himself and contributed with an assist in the 15 games he has played for the League 1 outfit.

Olympique Marseille owner Vincent Labrune stated that he is a part of a proud franchise that need not sell his players but added that they are not immune to offers from big sides for their star players. Mendy is one of those stars that may leave the club if the right offer comes.

According to the Mercato365, Labrune stated that he is willing to part terms with the young full back if a suitable financial proposal is made. At 21 years of age, Mendy will surely be an asset for the future while as already mentioned can take the place of Luke Shaw who is injured for the rest of the season.

Van Gaal is known for making enormous bids for talented players and may well be thinking about moving for the French full-back to strengthen his squad. He will, however, have to be aware that this will not provide them with instant results and that the whole system at the Old Trafford needs a bit of a tinkering.
