Biographical films on cricketers have been very well received by the fans. The life stories of the likes of MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar have already created waves in the theatres and the fans might witness yet another biopic. Telugu star Nani is now all set to play the role of a cricketer on the big screen. The much-awaited movie is titled Jersey. Gautam Tinnanuri is directing this sports drama
Nani took to Twitter to post the first look of the movie while writing:
“At 36 there is nothing left for him to prove in cricket. The dreams and heart burns have been left behind.. 1996-97 Ranji trophy season was just a display of his love for batting.”
I believe Nani is playing as Raman Lamba who was the top scorer in 1996-97 Ranji trophy season and died after being hit on the temperal bone by a cricket ball while fielding in Bangladesh's league cricket in 1998

The makers have not revealed too many details about the movie, not even the name of the cricketer whose role is being portrayed by Nani. But going by Nani’s caption and his look, one can assume that the movie is on former India cricketer Raman Lamba. Lamba is one of the handful of cricketers who succumbed to death after suffering fatal injury on the cricket field.
Lamba had top-scored in the Ranji Trophy in the 1996-97 season and was 36-year-old at that time. Overall, he scored 6362 runs at an average of 53.91 in 87 matches, scoring 22 centuries including 5 double centuries and his career highest of 312 versus Himachal Pradesh at Delhi in 1994-95.
His international career was also off to a flyer. He smacked a hundred and two fifties in six ODIs against Australia in 1986-87. However, Lamba failed to live up to the early hype as his next five one-dayers produced only eight runs before he was dropped. Overall, he played 4 Tests and 32 ODIs for India. He also represented Ireland in an unofficial game and played club cricket in Bangladesh.
But his eventful career came to a tragic end in 1998 when he received a fatal blow during a club game in Bangladesh. He was fielding for Abahani Krira Chakra against Mohammedan Sporting in Dhaka’s Premier League at the Bangabandhu Stadium when he was summoned from the outfield to go to short leg. Batsman Mehrab Hossain had pulled a short ball hard which hit Lamba on his forehead. He managed to get up and succumbed to the injury in the hospital.
