Yuvraj Singh To Return To Action For Punjab In Ranji Trophy 1

Yuvraj Singh’s career has only gone downhill in the last couple of years. The World Cup-winner made a fairy-tale return to the Indian side during the One-day International series against England in 2017. He went on to play his career-best knock of 150 during that series. The 50-over competition was his first ODI series in four years.

However, things only went downhill for him from thereon. He had a poor 2017 Champions Trophy in England and Wales where he aggregated 105 runs in four innings.

Eventually, it was followed by yet another dismal outing against Windies. He also failed the mandatory Yo-Yo test thrice which reportedly made the national selectors ignore the experienced campaigner. What further hurt his chances were his dismal showing in the last IPL. Yuvraj managed just 65 runs in 8 games for Kings XI Punjab.

His form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy has been equally poor. In four games he has played so far, he has managed just 86 runs with a top score of 41. Well, he is now set to play for Punjab in their final league match against Bengal in Kolkata. Yuvraj has played four out of the seven Ranji matches Punjab have taken part in.

Yuvraj will be desperate to score some runs in the game too revive his fading hopes of making it to the World Cup. At the time being, he is not even in the frame for a spot in ODI team.  However, some good performances in the coming months could definitely change his fortunes.

He recently admitted that he has still not given up on his hopes of making it to the World Cup squad.

“Cricket has given me everything. When I leave the game, I want to be at my best. I do not want to go with any regret,” Yuvraj said.

“I’m trying my best. This is our final league Ranji Trophy match and let’s see if we can qualify… After this, we have the national T20 tournament and then we have the IPL. I will give my best shot and hope for the best,” he said before the game against Bengal.
