Arsenal faced off against Manchester City at the Emirates on Monday, as both teams were keen on still challenging for the Premier League title and not letting any easy points slip from their hands. Arsene Wenger wanted his side to produce a solid performance and take back all three points from the game at home. Both sides went into the match at the back of a win and did not want to drop any easy points in this top of the table match. A win would have helped either side reduce the gap between them and current league leaders Leciester City. The Gunners looked the better side at the start as they scored in the 33rd minute, when Theo Walcott finished off from a superbly taken strike from the left, with his right foot curling the ball past Joe Hart.
Olivier Giroud doubled the lead with a cool left-foot finish in stoppage time at the end of the first period from a very difficult angle. The home side lead 2-0 at the interval after a good first 45 minutes.
After the break, things did change too much as the away side tried their best to score, yet failed. Manuel Pellegrini’s side only managed a consolation goal on the 82 minute, when Yaya Toure finished from a superbly taken left foot shot.
Despite that, the game eventually ended at 2-1 with the Londoners winners of this close encounter.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter, after this Arsenal win, which has now put them just two points behind Leicester:
