Waqar Younis, the Pakistan cricket team coach, was forced to clarify his tweet to former West Indian batsman Brina Lara on Friday after he referred to the latter as ‘BC’, which is considered as an abusive phrase in the sub-continent.
Waqar joined twitter on December 21. He probably has not yet learn the ways of twitter, and how Twitterati reacts to some word which has a double meaning.
It all started with the fast bowling great replying to a tweet from Lara, wishing his family and him on the day of Christmas.
But Waqar phrase which he wanted to mean Brian Charles Lara’s nickname – BC (Brian Charles).
Twitterati did not take his tweet well:
@BrianLara hope you and the family are well BC!

The Pakistani bowling great Waqar and West Indies batting legend Brian Charles Lara have played the game against each other for years in the 1990s. Waqar was known as the great bowler of the reverse swing, which he learnt from former captain Imran Khan. He bowled the greatest ball of the century to Lara.
Waqar had taken 373 Tests and 416 ODI wickets with an average of below 24 in both formats across career that lasted 14 years. Along with Wasim Akram, he formed one of the greatest fast bowling pairs to have ver played the game.
On the other hand, Lara retired with 11953 Test and 10405 runs to his name. His unbeaten 400 against England at Queens Park Oval is the highest individual Test score in the history.
