New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka in the 2nd the One day International at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch earlier today in just 50 balls. Sri Lanka was outplayed in all departments and could not offer any resistance. They looked like beginners in the game.

New Zealand chasing a paltry total of 118, the openers finished the task in just 50 balls. Guptill just assaulted the Sri Lankan bowling attack scoring 93 runs off 30 balls with 9 fours and 8 sixes. Guptill completed his fifty off just 17 balls claiming the record of the second fastest fifty in One day International cricket. Tom Latham gave a good support to Guptill scoring just 17 runs off 20 balls. Guptill just gave no chance for the Sri Lankan bowlers to settle particularly new find Chammera and Vandersay scoring 75 runs in just 4 over’s. New Zealand won the match by 10 wickets with 250 balls to spare.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. Sri Lankan openers Dilshan and Gunathilka gave a fair start of 20 runs for the first wicket. The first three wickets fell with an addition of 11 runs. The middle order batsmen consisting of Mathews, Siriwardane, Kapugedra and Kulasekra did contribute 12 to 19 runs taking the score of 81 runs. Last 3 batsmen also added some runs. Finally, the innings folded at 117 runs in 27.4 over’s. The peak of New Zealand were Henry picking up 4 wickets for 33 in 9.4 over’s and McClenaghan finished figures of 3 for 32 in 8 overs.

New Zealand batting did not respect any of the four bowlers and just made the batting aggressive and completing the task in an easy style. In the first ODI also they had decimated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets with 174 balls to spare.

With this New Zealand lead the five-match One-day International series 2-0.
