New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in the second T20 by 9 wickets at Eden Park, Auckland, just a few moments ago. The home team outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments and did not allow the visitors to come back into the match.

New Zealand, chasing a target of 143, got off to a blazing start with Martin Guptill and Kane Willamson amassing 82 in the first 6 overs. Martin Guptill smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground and smashed 50 off 19 balls. He continued to dominate the Sri Lankan bowlers and was finally dismissed for 63 off 25 balls hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes. The next batsmen Collin Munro made the batting looked easy and trashed the Sri Lankan bowlers. He never allowed the Sri Lankan bowlers to settle in line and length. Collin Munro made his 50 off just 14 which is the record for second fastest T20 fifty. The record is held by Yuvraj Singh.  Both Kane Willamson and Collin Munro remained not out. New Zealand won the match by 9 wickets and with 10 overs to spare. Thisara Perera was the only Sri Lankan bowler to pick a wicket.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to field.  Sri Lanka lost an early wicket of Gunathilkha at the score of 11. Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals. At the end of the six overs, Sri Lanka were 37 for 2. Dilshan scored 28. Apart from Angelo Mathews who scored 81 not out no other batsmen in the Sri Lankan batting line-up was able to put pressure on the New Zealand bowling. Angelo Mathews in the last few overs hit some big strokes which helped Sri Lanka to reach 142 for 8. The pick of the bowlers for New Zealand was Grant Elliot who picked 4 for 22.

With this series win, New Zealand won the T20 series 2-0 and Sri Lanka lost their number one ranking in T20.
